WITNESS MARKTOOL CO.

The story

ABOUT

A witness mark is evidence of fit. The scribed line a machinist strikes where two parts truly meet. The faint scar inside an old clock that tells a repairer exactly where a part rubbed for eighty years. We named the company after the evidence.

The name

Why “Witness Mark”

In forensic engineering, witness marks are how you find the truth: the scrape, the dent, the transfer of paint — the physical record of what actually happened, as opposed to what anyone says happened. A career spent reading those marks teaches you something that carries straight into the workshop: the work doesn’t lie. The fit is right or it isn’t, and the marks will tell on you either way.

The shop

One bench in Boone, North Carolina

Witness Mark Tool Co. is a one-person shop founded by a forensic engineer who spent a career measuring how things break — and now builds things that fit. The work happens on camera, the numbers are real, and nothing ships until it’s right. The camera stays pointed at the bench: around here, the work is the star.
